Matthew 26:40 NLT says, "Then he returned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter, 'Couldn't you watch with me even one hour?'" In this verse, Jesus is in the Garden of Gethsemane, asking his disciples to pray with him as he faces the most significant trial of his life. However, instead of praying, the disciples fell asleep, prompting Jesus to question why they could not even dedicate one hour to prayer.
This verse teaches us the importance of dedicating time to prayer, as Jesus himself modeled for us. It shows that even just one hour of focused prayer can have a significant impact and is a worthwhile use of our time. We can also see the importance of accountability and community in prayer, as Jesus asked his disciples to pray with him.
As believers, we should follow Jesus' example and make a dedicated effort to set aside time for prayer. While we may not always have the luxury of an entire hour to pray, we can still prioritize prayer daily and make it a regular part of our routine. Through prayer, we can deepen our relationship with God, find peace, and experience His power in our lives.
